COLDECON CHOOSES SHIRON TECHNOLOGY FOR MAJOR COMPARTEL PROJECT IN COLOMBIA
Deployment and Implementation of Leading-Edge Technology for COMPARTEL
Bogota, COLOMBIA – July, 2006 - Shiron Satellite Communications a global satellite leader in technology solutions, announced that the Consortium Union Temporal COLDECON has chosen Shiron’s InterSKY technology product for deployment of a large-scale broadband project in Colombia, COMPARTEL. This project represents $2.1 million in sales for Shiron.
Coldecon, the leading nationwide provider and distributor of wireless and Internet services and call centers in Colombia, chose Shiron’s products and services as the platform for last-mile IP data connectivity and other applications for turnkey project implementation of COMPARTEL Northern Region.
The Compartel project is a five-year initiative to provide broadband telecommunications access to public institutions in Colombia. The project involves providing high-speed Internet service together with support and personal computers for local municipalities, schools and hospitals.
Following an international competitive tender and bid process, the COLDECON Consortium signed an agreement with Compartel, an executive branch of the Ministry of Communications of Colombia, to deploy broadband connectivity to 2,224 schools and public institutions in the northern part of the country. The network will use Shiron’s InterSky platform in various technology combinations for the access, last-mile access and backhaul portions of the project.
